The smarter way to solar

What is a solar subscription?

Instead of spending tens of thousands of dirhams to buy and own a solar system, you pay a fixed monthly fee. The provider installs the system for free, owns it, monitors it, and maintains it — you simply enjoy a lower DEWA bill. It turns solar from a big capital purchase into a simple, low-risk service.

Solar without the upfront cost, the maintenance headaches, or the DEWA paperwork — and you can walk away whenever you choose.

Subscription isn't the same as a lease, a PPA, or buying

Subscription — a flat monthly fee, no matter how much the system produces. Fully managed. Best for most villas, renters and movers.

PPA — you pay per unit (kWh) of solar you use, usually on a long 20–25 year contract. Suits very high-usage, long-stay sites.

Lease — fixed equipment finance over a multi-year term.

Buying — a large one-off purchase you own and must maintain yourself. Best only for long-term owners with capital.

The honest comparison

Solar rental vs buying outright

Buying can win on lifetime value if you own your villa for the long term and have the capital. For most people — and almost every tenant — a subscription removes the cost, risk and hassle. Here's the side-by-side.

Best forRenters, movers, no-upfront, hassle-free householdsLong-term owners with capital who want max lifetime value
Bottom line: if you may move within a few years, rent your villa, or simply don't want to spend a large sum and manage equipment, a subscription is almost always the better choice — you save from day one with none of the ownership risk. Buying mainly pays off for long-term owners who can fund it upfront.
Renting in Dubai?

Yes — tenants can go solar too

You don't need to own your villa to cut your DEWA bill. With a subscription, your landlord simply signs the contract — then you pay the monthly fee and keep all the savings. Because there's no upfront cost and the system isn't yours to maintain, your risk stays low even if you move.

Landlord signs, you save

The owner's signature is all that's needed on the contract. You pay the subscription and enjoy the lower bills.

Nothing to lose if you move

No capital outlay means no stranded investment. You're paying for a service while you live there — not buying an asset for someone else's roof.

Clear exit options

When you leave: the next tenant or the landlord can take over the contract, you can buy it out, or it's removed — all agreed before you sign.

Zero maintenance worry

The provider owns, monitors and repairs the system. No disputes with the landlord about upkeep or faults.

Immediate bill relief

High summer AC bills start dropping from the first month — no waiting for a payback period.

Landlord-friendly too

A solar-ready villa is more attractive to rent and greener — an easy yes for most owners, at no cost to them.

DEWA & Shams Dubai

How it works with your DEWA bill

Solar reduces what you buy from the grid — it doesn't replace DEWA. Here's what to know so there are no surprises.

You stay on the grid

Your system powers the home by day and draws from DEWA at night. You'll still have a DEWA account and a (smaller) monthly bill.

Surplus is credited

Under Shams Dubai, extra solar energy is exported to DEWA and credited against future use — it offsets your bill rather than paying out cash.

Fully approved & legal

Installation follows DEWA regulations and is signed off by DEWA. All applications are handled for you by certified installers.

Good to know

Frequently asked questions

What if I'm renting my villa?
You can still go solar. We'll need your landlord's signature on the contract, but as the tenant you pay the monthly subscription and enjoy the reduced electricity bills. Because there's no upfront cost, your risk stays low even if you move.
How much does it cost to get started?
A once-off setup fee that secures installation and the DEWA approval process: Small AED 449, Medium AED 599, Large AED 699, Extra Large AED 799 (all excl. VAT). Then a matching monthly subscription for the same tier.
What about the monthly fee?
Small AED 449, Medium AED 599, Large AED 699, Extra Large AED 799 per month (excl. VAT). The fee is fixed regardless of how much energy you use — we handle the monitoring, optimisation and maintenance for you.
Is there a lock-in period?
No. The contract is evergreen and lasts until you choose to cancel. You can opt out at any time for a fee detailed in your contract, and we'll remove the installation from your property.
What happens if I move or sell?
Three options: the new tenant or owner takes over the contract; or you buy the system out at the price in your contract and sell it as a value-add; or you cancel (for a fee) before moving and we remove it. It's all agreed up front.
Can I buy the system later?
Yes. After three years you can purchase the installation at the price set in your contract and own it as-is — though you'd no longer receive the included monitoring and maintenance.
Will I still get a DEWA bill?
Yes — solar reduces how much electricity you buy from DEWA, but it doesn't take you off the grid. You keep your DEWA account, and your bill is simply smaller.
Can I sell excess electricity back to the grid?
Systems are designed to feed surplus electricity back to DEWA under the Shams Dubai scheme, so you can use that credit when you need it. It offsets future consumption rather than paying cash.
How does maintenance work?
We monitor your system online and are alerted if anything goes wrong — then we send a team to fix it at no charge. We also clean the panels and do a general check six times a year.
